Frossling Number Assessment for Airfoil Under Fully Turbulent Flow Conditions

North American winters are notorious for aircraft icing, which is a direct threat to aviation safety. Existing high-fidelity codes successfully model icing/de-icing simulations and calculate convective heat transfer, with penalty of high computational cost. For conceptual design an ice protection system, however, correlations offer quick approach determine the average transfer rate on airfoil. The objective this paper introduce novel correlation Frossling number NACA 0012, under fully turbulent flow conditions. result curve fitting database, created using fluid dynamics valid wide range Reynolds numbers angles attack. Moreover, effects two different turbulence models as well thermal boundary conditions investigated. A flat plate test case used verify prediction, airfoil validated experimental measurements at stagnation point. final form shows that cubic variation fits data best, error 2.14%.
